KCNIP2 encodes a regulatory subunit of Kv4/D (Shal)-type voltage-gated rapidly inactivating A-type potassium channels (Kv channel-interacting protein 2). Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are key components of the potassium currents in the heart and central nervous system. Kv channel-interacting protein 2 modulates channel density, inactivation kinetics, and rate of recovery from inactivation in a calcium-dependent and isoform-specific manner. KCNIP2 is also involved in KCND2 and KCND3 trafficking to the cell surface.
