Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Bryopsis corticulans, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Nannochloropsis gaditana
LHCSR3 encodes a stress-induced light-harvesting complex family protein that accumulates in the chloroplast thylakoid membrane of the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, where it associates with photosynthetic antenna supercomplexes under high-light and other photooxidative stress conditions. The mature polypeptide is an integral membrane, chlorophyll a/b- and carotenoid-binding antenna-like protein that adopts the canonical LHC fold with three transmembrane alpha-helices and additional lumen-exposed amphipathic helices and C-terminal regions enriched in protonatable acidic residues; specific lumen-facing Asp and Glu residues are required for sensing thylakoid lumen acidification. Functionally, LHCSR3 is essential for rapid, energy-dependent nonphotochemical quenching (qE), acting both as a pH-responsive trigger and as a direct excitation-energy quencher that converts excess absorbed light energy into heat, thereby limiting formation of reactive oxygen species and protecting photosystems from photoinhibition; mechanistic studies support distinct quenching components controlled by low pH and by xanthophyll composition, consistent with LHCSR3 providing flexible photoprotection across changing light and metabolic conditions.
