Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Phaeodactylum tricornutum
LHCX genes encode Lhcx proteins, a diatom-specific branch of the light-harvesting complex (LHC) superfamily that localize to the thylakoid membrane within complex plastids and associate with photosystem antenna systems. Lhcx proteins are small, hydrophobic pigment-binding membrane proteins built around the canonical LHC fold with multiple transmembrane helices and conserved chlorophyll/carotenoid-interacting regions, enabling their stable integration into the thylakoid and physical coupling to photosynthetic supercomplexes. Functionally, Lhcx family members are key effectors of rapidly inducible, energy-dependent nonphotochemical quenching (qE), acting together with the diadinoxanthin-to-diatoxanthin xanthophyll cycle to convert excess absorbed excitation energy into heat and thereby limit photosystem II overexcitation and photodamage under fluctuating or high light; genetic loss-of-function and complementation experiments in Phaeodactylum tricornutum show that qE capacity depends on Lhcx content and that multiple Lhcx isoforms can support this protective thermal dissipation. Lhcx expression is dynamically regulated by environmental cues (including light regime and nutrient stress such as iron limitation), providing a mechanism to tune antenna effective absorption cross-section and photoprotective capacity to changing ocean conditions.
