anti-rat RT1.Ac recognizes a polymorphic determinant of the MHC class I antigen in the rat (“c” and “n” haplotypes). This antibody is an excellent antibody for labelling cells of donor or host origin in bone marrow chimeras. Applications include flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry using cryostat sections (however, cross-reactivity with Lewis rats have been shown to occur in some instances).
Target Information
RT1.Ac is a gene located within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region of the rat genome and is a part of the class I MHC genes. The MHC genes are involved in the immune response by presenting peptide antigens to T cells, enabling the immune system to recognize and respond to pathogens. RT1.Ac encodes for a protein that is a homolog to human HLA and mouse H2 class I molecules, playing a crucial role in the activation and regulation of immune responses. This gene's expression on the surface of cells allows for the presentation of endogenous peptides to cytotoxic T lymphocytes, facilitating the detection and destruction of infected or malignantly transformed cells. Researchers often use RT1.Ac in studies involving transplantation immunology and autoimmune disease models, due to its pivotal role in antigen presentation and immune recognition.
