Immunofluorescent analysis of U251 cells using a MERTK polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-15028). U251 cells were fixed with 4% PFA (20 min), permeabilized with Triton X-100 (0.1%, 10 min), then incubated with a MERTK polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-15028) (1:25, 1 hr at 37°C). Primary antibody was detected with fluor-conjugated donkey anti-rabbit secondary antibody (green) at 1:400 dilution for 50 min at 37°C). Actin filaments have been labeled with dye-conjugated phalloidin (red). Nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (blue) (10 ug/ml, 10 min).

MERTK is a member of the MER/AXL/TYRO3 receptor kinase family and a transmembrane protein with two fibronectin type-III domains, two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains, and one tyrosine kinase domain. Mutations in MERTK gene have been associated with disruption of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) phagocytosis pathway and onset of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
