Optineurin (OPTN) plays an important role in the maintenance of the Golgi complex, membrane trafficking, and exocytosis. It functions through its interaction with myosin VI and Rab8. Optineurin links myosin VI to the Golgi complex and plays an important role in Golgi ribbon formation. It also plays a role in the activation of innate immune response during viral infection. Mutations affecting this gene are associated with Gluacoma 1 (GLC1E).
