PEP-053 is a 14 amino acid synthetic peptide whose sequence corresponds to residues 139-151 of human p300. The sequence of this peptide is (amino to carboxy terminus): G139-T-S-G-P-N-Q-G-P-T-Q-S-T151-C (The C-terminal cysteine has been added to facilitate conjugation and is not a part of the native human p300 sequence)
This peptide may be used for neutralization and control experiments with the polyclonal antibody that reacts with this product and p300, catalog # PA1-848. Using a solution of peptide of equal volume and concentration to the corresponding antibody will yield a large molar excess of peptide (~70-fold) for competitive inhibition of antibody-protein binding reactions.

EP300 encodes the adenovirus E1A-associated cellular p300 transcriptional co-activator protein. p300 is related by sequence to CPB (CREB-binding protein [CREB: cyclic-AMP responsive element binding protein]), and like CPB can stimulate transcription through activation of CREB. This EP300 activity is specifically inhibited by the adenovirus oncoprotein E1A. EP300 has also been identified as a co-activator of HIF1A (hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha), and thus plays a role in the stimulation of hypoxia-induced genes such as VEGF.
