In Western blot, a band is seen at ~38 kDa, representing isoform RCAN1-1L.
The RCAN1 protein interacts with calcineurin A and inhibits calcineurin-dependent signaling pathways, possibly affecting central nervous system development. This gene is located in the minimal candidate region for the Down syndrome phenotype, and is overexpressed in the brain of Down syndrome fetuses. This antibody is specific for Isoform RCAN1-1L, which is overexpressed in Alzheimer's Disease (Harris, C.D. et al) and is downregulated in Huntington's Disease (Ermak, G. et al).
