Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Arabidopsis thaliana
RDR2 encodes a nuclear RNA-dependent RNA polymerase that functions in the RNA-directed DNA methylation pathway by converting plant-specific RNA polymerase IV transcripts from repetitive, heterochromatic regions (including many transposable elements) into double-stranded RNA that is subsequently processed into predominantly 24-nt small interfering RNAs to guide transcriptional silencing and genome stability. The gene is protein-coding and produces an RDR2 protein that localizes to the nucleus and is also observed in nucleolar-associated siRNA processing centers together with other pathway components. Structurally, the locus comprises 4 exons and encodes a large, eukaryotic-type RNA-dependent RNA polymerase containing a conserved catalytic RdRP core domain; biochemical and structural work indicates RDR2 engages RNA templates (including RNA within RNA/DNA hybrids under defined end-structure constraints) and initiates complementary-strand synthesis near template 3' ends, consistent with tight functional coupling to polymerase IV transcription.
