Saposin D is a small, non-enzymatic lysosomal protein that promotes the degradation of ceramide and other sphingolipids by making them accessible to lysosomal enzymes. It is one of the four saposins derived from prosaposin and plays an important role in lysosomal lipid homeostasis.
