The SSX2B gene is a member of the SSX (synovial sarcoma on X) gene family, located on the X chromosome. The proteins encoded by SSX genes are part of the cancer-testis (CT) antigen family. These antigens are predominantly expressed in various types of cancers, including melanoma and carcinomas, but are normally restricted to the testis in adult tissues. The SSX2B protein may play a role in cell differentiation, proliferation, and transcriptional regulation by interacting with other nuclear proteins. SSX genes have been implicated in oncogenesis, especially in synovial sarcomas and other tumors, making them significant in cancer research and potential targets for immunotherapy.
