Tumor necrosis factor, α-induced protein 8-like 1, also known as TNFα-IP 8L1, is a 186 amino acid protein belonging to the TNFα-IP 8 family. Members of the TNFα-IP 8 family are induced by nuclear factor-κB 9 (NFκB) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), although induction by TNF is dependent upon NFκB activation. TNFα-IP 8 proteins also act as a negative mediator of apoptosis and may play a role in tumor progression. They suppress TNF-mediated apoptosis by inhibiting caspase-8 activity but not the processing of procaspase-8, subsequently resulting in inhibition of BID cleavage and caspase-3 activation.
