Members of this family have been found to be involved in cell proliferation. TPD52 has a ubiquitous expression pattern and consists of a coiled-coil motif responsible for protein-protein interactions. Its expression is characteristically up-regulated during differentiation of B-cells to plasma cells. It binds to annexin VI in a Ca2+-dependent manner. Reports suggest TPD52 might be involved in Ca2+-dependent signaling, cell proliferation, vesicle trafficking and regulation of secretory processes in plasma cells. It is dysregulated in many cancer types suggesting a therapeutic intervention.
