The Human Interleukin-6 (Hu IL-6) ELISA kit is a valuable tool for the precise measurement of Hu IL-6 in various biological samples, such as human serum, plasma, buffered solutions, or cell culture medium. This highly specific assay is specifically designed to exclusively detect and quantify both endogenous and recombinant forms of Hu IL-6.
Principle of the method
Employing a well-matched pair of antibodies, the Human IL-6 solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) accurately quantifies the target analyte. The microplate wells are pre-coated with a target-specific antibody, facilitating the binding of the analyte during the assay. Upon the addition of samples or standards they selectively bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody within the wells. The formation of a sandwich complex is accomplished by introducing a second (detector) antibody. Subsequently, a substrate solution is added, initiating a reaction with the enzyme-antibody-target complex and generating a measurable signal. The intensity of this signal directly correlates with the concentration of the target present in the original specimen.
IL-6 is a gene that encodes a cytokine that plays a role in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. The protein produced by this gene is an endogenous pyrogen that can induce fever in people with autoimmune diseases or infections. The gene is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated levels of the encoded protein have been found in virus infections, including COVID-19 (disease caused by SARS-CoV-2). Diseases associated with IL6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Juvenile.
