The Human NrCAM ELISA quantitates Hu NrCAM in human serum, plasma, or cell culture medium. The assay will exclusively recognize both natural and recombinant Hu NrCAM.
Principle of the method
The Human NrCAM solid-phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is designed to measure the amount of the target bound between a matched antibody pair. A target-specific antibody has been pre-coated in the wells of the supplied microplate. Samples, standards, or controls are then added into these wells and bind to the immobilized (capture) antibody. The sandwich is formed by the addition of the second (detector) antibody, a substrate solution is added that reacts with the enzyme-antibody-target complex to produce measurable signal. The intensity of this signal is directly proportional to the concentration of target present in the original specimen.
Rigorous validation
Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation.
Neuron-glia-related cell adhesion molecule (NRCAM) is a gene located on chromosome 7q31.1, encoding a protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules. NRCAM is expressed in the nervous system and plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of neural connections. This adhesion molecule facilitates neuron-neuron and neuron-glia interactions, impacting processes such as axon guidance, synapse formation, and cell signaling, which are crucial for neural development and plasticity. NRCAM is involved in the modulation of signal transduction pathways that influence neuronal growth and repair, contributing to the stabilization of synaptic structures. Alterations in NRCAM expression or function have been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, and certain psychiatric conditions, reflecting its importance in maintaining neural circuit integrity. Research into NRCAM continues to explore its therapeutic potential in neurobiology and its implications in neurological and psychiatric disorders.
