About This Kit
Mouse IL-18 BPc quantitates mouse IL-18 BPc in serum, plasma, supernatant. The assay will exclusively recognize both natural and recombinant mouse IL-18 BPc.
Target information
The IL18BPc gene encodes one of the isoforms of the interleukin-18 binding protein (IL-18BP), a crucial component in immune system regulation. Located in humans, IL18BPc is among four isoforms, alongside hIL-18BPa, b, and d, with hIL-18BPa being the predominant form. Both hIL-18BPa and hIL-18BPc effectively neutralize interleukin-18 (IL-18), a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by T cells and NK cells, thereby mitigating its activity. This interaction is essential as IL-18 is implicated in several inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases. IL-18BP acts as a natural inhibitor, demonstrating a high affinity for IL-18, which makes it a significant focus for therapies targeting cytokine pathways in immunotherapy. Its ability to antagonize IL-18 highlights its potential as an immune checkpoint in cancer therapy, offering alternatives to enhance treatment efficacy and tolerability.
