Our Single-Use Assembly Configurator Tool makes it easy to create custom assemblies tailored to your process or select in-stock, ready-to-ship options to help reduce lead times.

Frequently asked questions

Single-use bioprocessing prevents direct contact of the biologics with equipment by incorporating disposable components like bags, tubing, and liners. This significantly reduces contamination risk and improves equipment turn-around time.

Single use technologies are commonly used in the production of biologic therapeutics and their components including monoclonal antibodies, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), proteins, mRNA, gene therapies, cell therapies, and more.

Single-use technologies eliminate variables around equipment cleaning including cleaning solutions, water quality, and operator variability. Many disposable components for single-use systems like those sold through Thermo Scientific are made from the same films creating a consistent product contact layer.

Supply chains and finding the correct single-use components can be challenging. When adopting single-use it is important to select a supplier with a robust, redundant supply chain and support to help ensure that you can get components when you need them. Thermo Fisher’s global manufacturing network helps provide supply assurance to our customers. Another challenge can be leaks. Thermo Fisher has incorporated the Thermo Scientific BioTitan Retention Device, a replacement for cable ties to virtually eliminate leaks from connection points.

Scalability is improved with consistent films like the Aegis 5-15 used across many types of bags, controllers with consistent software, and high turndown ratios. For example, the Thermo Scientific DynaDrive Single-Use Bioreactor 5000 L has a 20:1 turndown ratio, which reduces steps in the feed train. Our equipment and control platforms scale easily from 1 L working volume to 5,000 L.

Single-use technologies eliminate the need for extensive cleaning steps between batches. Cleaning traditional stainless-steel equipment uses significant amounts of water, cleaning solutions and electricity which often has a larger environmental impact than use of disposable components.
