Developments in molecular assessment and machine learning-derived algorithms have created the potential for transformative applications in transplantation. Join us for this discussion on how gene expression profiling has been implemented for the surveillance of heart transplant recipients. This MMDx® Heart and Lung discussion will also explore current research on how gene expression profiling technology may be applied to advance care for lung recipients as well.

Dr. Eugene DePasquale is the Medical Director of the Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at the University of Southern California. Dr. DePasquale received his M.D. degree from State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency, Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine, and a Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. At the same institution, he was Chief Cardiology Fellow, and completed an additional Fellowship with a focus in Inherited Cardiomyopathies with additional study at University College London.
His research interests include heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support outcomes, as well as studies of novel heart failure and cardiomyopathy therapies.
In addition, Dr. DePasquale has a strong interest in sports cardiology and serves as a medical consultant for the US Open Tennis Championships and the Women’s Tennis Association.

Dr. Kieran Halloran is a clinician investigator and associate professor with the lung transplant program at the University of Alberta hospital in Edmonton, Canada. He completed pulmonary medicine training at the University of Alberta, followed by a clinical fellowship in lung transplantation with the Toronto lung transplant program in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Halloran then went on to receive his Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard University in Boston, USA. His primary research interests lie in phenotyping of post-transplant lung dysfunction, pre-transplant risk prediction, and molecular mechanisms of lung rejection. His work is supported by international, provincial, and local funding bodies and has been published in peer-reviewed journals including The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Transplantation, The American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine, and The American Journal of Transplantation.
