Target Information
Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid class, which targets the central nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death. It is widely used for controlling aphids and other pests due to its selective properties. Imidacloprid acts by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in insects, disrupting normal neural transmission. This insecticide has been approved for controlling disease vectors but has raised environmental concerns due to its impact on pollinators. The chemical structure of imidacloprid includes a nitroguanidine moiety, which is responsible for its insecticidal activity. Recent studies have highlighted its potential adverse effects on non-target organisms, including mitochondrial dysfunction in human cells, necessitating strategies to mitigate its environmental impact.
