One half of the plate contains TSA with 5% sheep blood to promote growth of fastidious organisms with clearly visible hemolysis forms for staphylococci and streptococci. MacConkey Agar on the other half of the plate is a selective medium for differentiating between coliforms and lactose and non-lactose fermenters.
