Description

Hydroxylammonium sulfate is used to produce hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid from chlorosulfuric acid. It is widely used in organic synthesis for the conversion of aldehydes and ketones to oximes, carboxylic acids and their derivatives (e.g. esters) to hydroxamic acids, isocyanates to N-hydroxyureas and nitriles to amidoximes. It acts as a radical scavenger which is used to terminate the radical polymerization reactions. It finds application as an antioxidant in natural rubber. It is also used in photography as a stabilizer for color developers.
