La lovastatine est un composé qui peut réduire le taux de cholestérol in vivo et in vitro en inhibant l’HMG-CoA réductase, une enzyme limitant la vitesse de synthèse du cholestérol
Applications
• Elle bloque l’ion produit du mévalonate, un composé essentiel à la production du cholestérol et des isoprénoïdes.
•Elle peut augmenter la résistance cellulaire aux agents anticancéreux tels que la doxorubicine • Elle peut induire l’apoptose dans les cellules du myélome
•Elle peut provoquer un arrêt du cycle cellulaire en phase G1 et G2/M
• Elle bloque également la phosphorylation de la tyrosine du récepteur du PDGF et l’activation de la MAP kinase par le PDGF
