The Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) Colorimetric Assay Kit is a highly reliable and sensitive assay designed for the quantitative measurement of LDL-C in serum, plasma, tissue, cells, and cell culture supernatant samples. LDL-C is the main lipoprotein in fasting plasma, accounting for about two-thirds of plasma lipoproteins, and is the main vehicle for transporting cholesterol to extrahepatic tissues. The content of LDL-C is related to the incidence of cardiovascular disease and the degree of lesions and is considered to be the main pathogenic factor of atherosclerosis.

The assay is based on the reaction of LDL-C with enzyme reagents containing cholesterol esterase and cholesterol oxidase to produce hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is catalyzed by an oxidase in the presence of 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA) and phenol (T-OOS) to form a red quinone compound with a maximum absorption peak at 546 nm. The LDL-C content in the sample can be calculated by measuring the OD value.
