London is the headquarters for many of the large mining organizations, as well as the junior exploration companies looking for investment, so Mines and Money London 2013 is an important show. Attendance is usually high, topping 3,000 last year, and the attendees range from CEOs to investors, to geologists to students wanting to put their first step forward into the mining world. There are few trade shows where you can demonstrate both the importance of sample preparation to a geologist and the return on investment to the finance director at the same time. That’s one of the reasons for its significance. Another reason is that Mines and Money is truly multi-national and multi-cultural, which makes it a great place to network, understand current and future mining trends and meet many customers and fellow experts in the industry. (The show is being held Dec 1 -5, 2013 at the Business Design Centre, adjacent to the Hilton London Islington.) I have been going to the show for the last 6 years so I have already noted two events in my agenda that I know will be great sessions. The Mining Commodity Briefings provide substantial information about which commodities are on the rise. The Country Briefings can help you determine which country will explode into life over the next year. If you need to tease out the stresses of the first day, there is a very pleasant evening reception of drinks & canapés. But if you want to step out later in the week and get a sandwich or if you need to entertain a group, I’ve got two suggestions: Browns Islington, just across the road from the show venue, has a spacious, bustling bar and a relaxing dining area serving classic dishes and cocktails. Haché Camden, in my opinion, has the best burgers in London. (I like my burgers medium rare, served in a toasted bun with ketchup on the side.) If your week is not all business and you get to explore the city a bit, you won’t be disappointed. London is gearing up for Christmas and the attractions will be truly special – the sights, sounds and ambiance are fantastic. I could write a book about things to do, but visiting the London Eye for a fantastic night time view above London is rather special. I have no idea if royalty will be stopping by the show, but if you’re there, make sure you visit us at stand D23. We’ve brought the lab to the field, so bring a mining sample that we can analyze for you right in our stand, in seconds, and provide you with lab-quality results. Cheers! How do you like your burger? Beef/Veggie/Turkey/Black Bean? What do you put on it? Comment below and let us know.
