Sequencing and fragment analysis applications in infections disease researchDr. Nitin KaushikIn this webinar, Nitin Kaushik, MD, MBA, Senior Product Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific, will present the application of capillary electrophoresis in infectious diseases. He will share real-world case studies highlighting bacterial and viral pathogen identification using Fragment Analysis and viral genotyping using Sanger Sequencing for drug resistance testing. He will demonstrate the impacts assays like these can provide on patient care and scientific discoveries.30 mins
Experiences in HIV drug resistance and genotyping in San Lazaro Hospital/ NRL-SACCLDr. Annavi Marie G. VillanuevaHIV drug resistance (HIVDR) has been a global problem since 2016. Pretreatment drug resistance (PDR) prevalence has exceeded 10% in 7/11 countries surveyed. The highest drug resistance rate was reported among non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), wherein >10% prevalence was noted in 6/11 countries. According to the WHO Global Action Plan, the implementation of a nationally representative PDR survey for countries without nationally representative data was recommended. The introduction of dolutegravir as a first-line drug in 2021 in the country further emphasized the need for continuous surveillance of HIVDR. The NRL-SACCL has a vast network of HIV confirmatory laboratories in the Philippines and has the capacity to implement HIVDR and genotype nationwide surveillance through the use of gold-standard capillary sequencing technology.30 mins
