Dr. Gupta discusses his experience with MMDx® Kidney, lab-developed a test that applies gene expression profiling for the assessment of injury and rejection at the molecular level in transplant biopsies. He explores how molecular diagnostics can be used in clinical practice, including how the test can complement traditional histology as well as how the results can be incorporated in patient management.
The presentation covers these topics:
Gaurav Gupta, MD | Virginia Commonwealth University – Richmond, VA USA
Dr. Gupta currently serves as the medical director of the kidney transplant program at VCUHS. He has previously served as the Program Director of the transplant nephrology fellowship. His current research efforts are focused on enhancing access to kidney transplantation by the safe utilization of high-infectious risk donor kidneys (PHS high risk, HIV+ and HCV+ donors). With the help of collaborators, he's also studying the impact of Angiotensin receptor antibodies in kidney transplant rejection and focal segmental glomerular sclerosis. Dr. Gupta has been working on the use of belatacept for calcineurin inhibitor minimization to improve short and long-term graft outcomes. Their evolving data on this has already been partially published and is serving as a launchpad for other clinical trials. In addition to these primary interests he's also involved in multicenter studies on molecular diagnostics and therapeutics for kidney transplants.
