The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes are the most polymorphic region of the human genome. Identifying novel alleles has been laborious and time-consuming for HLA laboratories. With the advancement of next-generation sequencing (NGS), the lab can now access all the bases of all 11 loci of the HLA genes in a single sequencing run. This not only allows a technologist to reliably access known alleles to the fourth field, but it also gives laboratories the ability to discover new clinically relevant alleles.
In this webinar, Dr. Ahmed Mostafa will define what constitutes a novel allele. He will also demonstrate how to identify a novel allele using the TypeStream Visual™ NGS Analysis software (TSV) along with a step-by-step process using TSV to submit the allele to the IPD-IMGT/HLA database.
