Lithium bis(trimetylsilyl)amide is used as a strong base in organic synthesis and as catalysts in polymerization reactions. It is also used to form various organolithium compounds such as acetylides and lithium enolates. It is a base employed in generating enolates for preparation of lactone precursors, pyranones and cyclohexanes. Further, it is used to catalyze the addition of phosphine P-H bonds to carbodiimides leading to phosphaguanidines. In addition, it is used in a three-step synthesis of disubstituted 1,2,5-thiadiazoles.
