Description

Reagent for precipitation of proteins5-Sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate is used as a metal scavenger and it forms proton-transfer dye complexes with diazo compounds such as 4-(phenyldiazenyl)aniline. It is employed as a preparative measure for removing proteins prior to chromatographic analysis. It plays a vital role in reducing and fixation of proteins in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. It acts as a surfactant and lubricating grease additive. It is also used in urine tests to determine urine protein content. Further, it acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients like doxycycline and methacycline. In addition to this, it is used as a spray reagent for the detection of amino acids on thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates and as a doping agent for polyaniline.
