Description

Inhibits matrix metalloproteinases at subantimicrobial doses.Doxycycline hyclate is an antibacterial antibiotic, which is used in the treatment of chlamydia, rickettsia, mycoplasma and some spirochete infections. It is also used to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases at subantimicrobial doses.

General description
• Doxycycline hyclate is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic of the tetracycline class
• Doxycycline inhibits bacterial growth by preventing polypeptide formation via inhibition of at least one ribosomal subunit
• Known to reversibly bind the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibit formation of the aminoacyl-tRNA/mRNA-ribosome complex
• Inhibits matrix metalloproteinases in many microorganisms
Applications
• Effective against the bacteria that cause Lyme disease, chlamydia, rickettsia and mycoplasma; suitable for antibiotic resistance testing and study of cellular mechanisms
