Cultivate and maintain the growth of fungi and yeasts from clinical material using Mycological Agar (Mycophil™ Agar).
Cultivate and maintain the growth of fungi and yeasts from clinical material using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Mycological Agar (Mycophil™ Agar). In 1948, Carlier developed this medium for the cultivation of fungi prepared from peptone, glucose and agar1. Previous formulations of fungal media generally had an acidic pH for inhibiting bacterial growth. In 1958, Huppert and Walker demonstrated that media with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH provided for early and luxuriant growth of fungi2,3.
Mycophil Agar has also been recommended for isolation of yeasts and most filamentious fungi from clinical material4.
This medium contains soy peptone that provides nitrogen, amino acids, and peptides necessary for the growth of fungi and dextrose as a source of energy which supports the growth of fungi. Agar is a solidifying agent.
