3D quantitative analysis of Li-ion battery graphite anode
In the past decades, the rapid growth of electric vehicles and consumer electronics market leads battery technology to attract significant attention. In order to further advance battery technology, in-depth understanding on the electrode microstructure and its correlation to the battery performance is essential.
The graphite anode is commonly used in commercial Li-ion battery. This electrode is a highly complex system with features covers multiple length scale, thus challenging for characterization. The graphite particle to make the electrode are normally at the size range of a few microns to tens of microns, while the critical pore features in the electrode are at tens to hundreds to nm range. Therefore, a 3D imaging technique that can cover both large representative 3D volume (a few hundred micron ^3 volume) and high resolution data (tens of nm resolution) is needed.
