Thermo Fisher Scientific offers pre-configured LIMS solutions to accelerate testing and implementation. For labs conducting COVID-19 testing, where getting answers quickly is critical, Thermo Fisher is leveraging its scale and resources to get you up and running faster.

The Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager LIMS™ software COVID-19 Testing Solution comprises pre-configured functionality for high throughput COVID-19 testing labs. This solution manages the complete COVID-19 testing workflow, from sample collection through results reporting. Capabilities in this workflow include:

The COVID-19 Testing Solution is built on SampleManager LIMS software, a complete, comprehensive solution for lab, data and process management, and one of the most widely deployed LIMS in the world. For over 30 years, SampleManager LIMS software has supported customers using the latest technologies and is developed, designed and supported in an ISO 9001 environment. With SampleManager LIMS software as the backbone of the COVID-19 Testing Solution, users have a solution that’s built for compliance and data integrity. The solution includes access to dashboard for guidance through your testing procedures, as well as mobile application support for sample receipt and accessioning. The solution also supports CAP-accredited or CLIA-compliant laboratories.

Supporting the complete testing workflow

The COVID-19 Testing Solution integrates with the ELLKAY™ CareEvolve™ Portal, enabling test order placement, sample accessioning, and results reporting. The ELLKAY CareEvolve Portal and COVID-19 Testing Solution are designed to track and manage patient samples through the SARS‑CoV‑2 testing workflow.

The testing workflow is configured following the Applied Biosystems™ TaqPath™ COVID-19 Multiplex Diagnostic Solution from Thermo Fisher which includes the use of the Thermo Scientific™ KingFisher™ Flex Purification System with Applied Biosystems™ MagMAX™ Viral/Pathogen II Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit and the Applied Biosysytems™ TaqPath™ COVID-19 Combo Multiplex real-time RT-PCR test kit for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS‑CoV‑2.

The COVID-19 Testing Solution comes pre-configured with templates to support the creation of instrument files for the Applied Biosystems™ 7500, 7500 FAST, and 7500 FAST DX Real-Time PCR Systems; the Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio™ 7 Flex Real-Time PCR System; and the Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio™ 5 and 5 DX Real-Time PCR System. A file parser is also available for the Applied Biosystems™ COVID-19 Interpretive Software to capture relevant data and associate it with the correct samples.

While the COVID-19 Testing Solution is built to manage Thermo Fisher testing kits and instrumentation and the ELLKAY CareEvolve Portal, the solution can be extended with additional services to support other testing kits, instrumentation, and EMR/EHR systems. There are many different SARS‑CoV‑2 testing kits available on the market. The COVID-19 Testing Solution is well-suited for testing kits based on a single step Real-Time PCR assay).

Please note that LIMS is not part of the approved Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) or In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) testing solution.
