SME: Hitting the Mineral and Metallurgical Sessions

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) Annual Meeting is a great place to network with clients in the mining and minerals industry, keep up to date with projects and hear about new innovations through the over 100 technical sessions. The show will be held February 15-18, 2015, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado USA. I’m personally interested in the Mineral and Metallurgical Processing Technical Sessions. This year there are many sessions of interest in that track, including ones dealing with plant design and optimization, remediation and secondary processing, tailings, research and characterization, flotation, leaching, physical separation, pyrometallurgy, simulation and modeling, and comminution (both communication circuit design and applications as well as mechanical and electrical developments). It’s a great way to stay updated on important developments in the industry. In fact, we’ll be discussing Samplers and Analyzers in our booth (#1321). Continuous online analysis and monitoring of raw material composition is key to improving product quality and integrity, maximizing resources, and meeting customer specifications. You can keep mineral processing operations running efficiently, safely, and improve profitability with analyzers that provide critical process data in the lab and in the concentrator. If you haven’t seen integrated solutions for mineral beneficiation plants in action, take a look at these three short videos to see how they can provide low maintenance solutions with reliable and accurate analyzers and samplers. We’ll have plenty of application experts at the booth to help answer your questions about analysis and material handling solutions with technologies that are designed to scale as your mining operations rapidly change. In addition to our application specialists, we’ll have staff available to discuss additional solutions, including those for exploration, (like Portable XRF and Central Lab Analysis) and extraction (like Weighing and Monitoring applications). We will also be introducing a new product for XRF slurry elemental analyzers, which eliminates the requirement for Liquid Nitrogen cooling of the X-ray detector. Stop by our booth to discuss the new technology. I can’t get enough mineral talk. If I have time, I’m going to try and visit the Denver Museum of Nature & Science gem and minerals exhibit. I read that they have on display an eight-pound nugget of crystallized gold, a six-foot wall of blood-red rhodochrosite crystals, and a reproduction of a Mexican silver mine, where “a cavern glistens with milky white gypsum crystals and stalactites.” I’ve never been to Denver before, but if you’re looking to dine outside the conference hall, my colleague Tom recommends Maggiano’s Little Italy for its great atmosphere, food and wine, as well as Jax Fish House. The infamous Jax Raw Bar offers up to a dozen different varieties of oysters nightly as well as clams, chilled crabs and lobsters; all flown in daily.
