This metal is never found as the free element; the most important ore is cassiterite (tin oxide, SnO2). It has a highly crystalline structure and causes a “tin cry” to be heard when a bar is bent. So it’s no surprise that this mined metal, which traditionally has been used to celebrate 10th anniversaries, is Tin.
