PDAC, one of the World’s Premier Mineral Exploration & Mining Conventions, will be hosted in person in Toronto from June 13-15, 2022 and online on June 28-29, 2022. The show, hosted by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, and promotes itself as “the leading convention for people, governments, companies and organizations connected to mineral exploration.”
Show organizers have their hands full to pull off this hybrid event. Attendees will be given the option to attend in person, online, or both. They are expecting 800 exhibitors and will offer a core shack, investors exchange, student minerals colloquium, a prospector’s tent, educational sessions, and the trade show itself. In addition, they will be providing 200 hours of content across a diverse spectrum of industry topics. This first of its kind hybrid event for PDAC is a great opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest in exploration and mining practices whether one can travel to the event or not.
At the Booth
If you are able to attend in person, stop by Booth 504 where we will be discussing the trends of key mining and geochemical exploration commodities, including how copper mining is driving efficiency to meet the growing demand for clean energy. We’ll delve into how copper demand increased from the traditional sector (electrification products), the green economy (solar hydro thermal and wind energy), and the increase of use in electric cars. In addition, we’ll talk about how iron ore demand is high, driven by investment in infrastructure (railway, power generation) and construction. Stop by and let us know what you think about mining for battery metals such as Li, Ni, Co, Mn and how likely they are to be sought after amid the energy transition.
Mining and the green economy seem to be on most miners’ minds. Alex Christopher, PDAC’s president, wrote in the show brochure that “The role of mining in the transition to a low carbon future remains dominant. Canada is uniquely positioned in this conversation as a leader in exploration and mining practices, as well its ability to deliver many of the minerals and metals required to make the shift.”
To deliver these minerals and metals is going to take investment in the latest technologies. The need for rapid sample analysis and real-time geochemical data to guide drilling decisions and enable high-productivity operations will help gain a competitive advantage. (Read how geochemical surveys form the backbone of most greenfield exploration projects in our article Using Soil Sampling with XRF Analysis for Greenfield Exploration.)
You can see the latest portable mining and exploration technology, including portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers at our booth. We will be demonstrating how XRF technology can provide rapid, on-site qualitative screening directly in-situ or lab-quality quantitative analysis on prepared samples, bypassing the costly and time-consuming process of sending samples to off-site laboratories and waiting days, or even months, for critical data. See how easy it is to perform fast, accurate geochemical analysis – virtually anywhere on site.
If You Want to Learn More
If you want to dig deeper into mining technologies, we will also be discussing PGNAA and PFTNA technologies used by online elemental analyzers to aid in mine grade control, material sorting, material blending, and stockpile control. Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) and Pulsed Fast Thermal Neutron Activation (PFTNA) technologies can provide real-time online elemental analysis of an entire raw material process stream, giving mining operators the ability to blend, sort and monitor product quality, without the need for continuous sampling. Consistent product quality helps improves efficiency, reduces effects of process upsets, increases mill throughput, reduces energy consumption and extends refractory life.
If you can’t make it to the show, you can keep up to date on the happenings by following their twitter feed using #PDAC2022.
