You can always expect a warm welcome from the ‘Phoenicians’ as the local population are known. Phoenix is the capital of the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona and is this year’s location for the biggest SME event of the year. MineXchange 2020 SME Annual Conference & Expo not only promises warm weather (temperatures in Phoenix reach an average high of 71 degrees at this time of the year), but show representatives expect over 6,000 attendees, 600 speakers, and 575 exhibitors.
This expo boasts that it is the only conference dedicated to all disciplines of mining engineering. Featuring a wide variety of technical sessions and speakers combined with an expansive exhibit hall, MineXchange attracts thousands of mining professionals from around the world. According to its website, it is widely recognized as “the most distinguished forum for the publication of multidisciplinary mining research. Additionally, the expansive expo provides close-up views of the latest in mining technology and innovations, providing hands-on opportunities for creative collaboration with leading industry vendors.”
If you are looking for a variety of mining technologies in one place, make sure you stop by Booth 1521, where we will be demonstrating the latest in mining technologies for delivering consistent material quality, improving process efficiency, and minimizing production costs in a variety of different process and mining operations.
Talk with one of our specialists about how you can implement high frequency online elemental analysis of an entire raw material process stream using Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) or Pulsed Fast Thermal Neutron Activation (PFTNA). PGNAA and PFTNA are non-contact, non-destructive analytical techniques used in online analysis systems to determine the elemental composition of bulk raw materials. Both of these techniques are known collectively as neutron activation analysis and function by bombarding materials with neutrons.
If you want to delve deeper into more technologies, stop by to see our X-ray diffractometer (XRD) that can help meet structural and phase analysis requirements, and our X-ray Spectrometers that combine both X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) in one instrument to help achieve quality control in your industrial processes.
We’ll also be demonstrating how to monitor your conveyor belt feed to crushers, mills, screens and other processes with an accuracy of ±0.5% using belt scale systems. And if swelling clays are causing problems with your grinding and flotation circuit, talk with one of our on-line sensor specialists, who might be able to suggest some solutions.
Many attendees will be especially interested in the keynote session titled “The Executive’s Role in Tailings Management: Preserving our Social License to Operate.” This topic is a focus because many SME members believe that the “increasing number of tailings dam failures is causing significant global reactions that will have a lasting impact on how the mining industry manages its mineral processing wastes.” The Keynote session is followed by a five-session technical Symposium titled “Mine Tailings: Perspectives for a Changing World.” (If you are specifically interested in tailings, we previously wrote about how tailings are sampled for analysis and metallurgical accounting in a mineral beneficiation plant.)
If you need a break from the mining talk, and want to take advantage of the location, the metropolitan area known as the Valley of the Sun has many high-end spa resorts, Jack Nicklaus–designed golf courses (a true golfing capital with more than 20 courses within 20 miles of downtown), and vibrant nightclubs. Other highlights include the Desert Botanical Garden, displaying cacti and numerous native plants.
Fine dining is available in Phoenix’s Arcadia with its charming, tree-lined neighborhoods and blooming citrus trees. This suburban oasis is located roughly between 36th and 68th streets, sandwiched by Camelback and Thomas roads, the bounteous of dining options. If you’re hungry, it’s guaranteed Arcadia can satisfy any taste or craving.
