General Description

  • Cinchonidine is an alkaloid naturally occurring in the bark of Cinchona strubs that has activity against Plasmodium spp
  • Cinchonidine is a diastereoisomer of cinchonine and can be used to promote chirality in asymmetric or enantioselective synthesis of organic compounds

Applications

  • Cinchonidine has been used as a starting material in the synthesis of anti-malarial cinchona alkaloid conjugates
  • Has been shown to potently induce γ-globin mRNA and fetal hemoglobin in erythroid progenitor cells and may be useful in preclinical studies of β-thalassemia
