Choose Thermo Scientific SureSTART Inserts (Level 3) with 2 mL vials when analyzing samples to maximize the injection volume. These glass inserts have a small total volume capacity of 500 μL, with a minimum residual volume of 2 μL. When placed and sealed inside a 2 mL vial, microsamples can be used in conventional autosampler trays. Choose from polyspring conical, pulled point conical, or flat bottom insert formats. Conical inserts are most effective with residual volumes of 2-4 μL. These inserts are Performance Level 3 are designed to protect your most valuable samples and deliver consistent, reproducible results for your most demanding analyses. They are Specification Certified to ensure physical dimensions and meet all requirements of US, EU, JPN Pharmacopeia.

Note: Purchase is for Glass Inserts Only

Key Features

  • Designed for use with Thermo Scientific 2 mL (9 mm) screw, 11 mm snap, and 11 mm crimp vials
  • Polyspring conical inserts utilize a polyethylene spring to center the insert and provide a cushion against needle contact
  • Flat-bottom inserts provide greater sample capacity than polyspring or pulled-point conical inserts
  • Suitable for GC, LC, and MS applications

Performance Level 3 – for High-Sensitivity Applications

  • Meets US, EU, and JPN Pharmacopeia requirements
  • Contain the lowest levels of extractable metals and leachables
  • Ideal for GC, LC, and MS applications, including Thermo Scientific™ LC and GC Orbitrap™ MS systems and other HRAM instruments
  • Supports workflows that demand consistent sensitivity and selectivity

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What type of vial should I use for chromatographic/chromatogenic analysis of polar compounds?

For very polar compounds, including ionizable biomolecules and inorganic ions, the use of a plastic vial may be considered. Polypropylene vials are included in the SureSTART range as a Level 1 range of products.

Most polar analytes can be analyzed successfully in glass vials with few problems at normal analytical levels. Low concentrations may require investigation of deactivated vials, but in most cases the control of the sample pH is enough to maintain linearity.

Type 1 neutral borosilicate glass is suitable for neutral/acid samples with little change of pH caused by the glass surface.

What are SureSTART micro inserts?

The micro inserts have a small total volume capacity of <400 µL and can be classified as either Polyspring, conical, or flat-bottom within the SureSTART Collection. Micro inserts are placed and sealed inside a vial so they can be used in conventional autosampler racks. The smaller 6 mm diameter of the insert gives better sample recovery than a routine flat based vial with conical inserts being most effective with residual volumes of 1-2 µL. Many are held in place by a Polyspring, which cushions and centers the insert.
