How to Use Volume Edit for Custom ROI Selection and Cropping

This tutorial explores the Volume Edit module: a versatile way of modifying a dataset to remove sample holders or irrelevant objects before visualization and segmentation.

This tutorial introduces the Volume Edit module within Amira and Avizo Software. Three situations are shown for different needs:

  1. Removing or retaining square regions with an ROI box-like manipulator
  2. Removing or retaining cylindrical volumes, such as for micro-CT data of rock cores
  3. Custom and iterative addition or retention of data using a free hand drawing tool in the 3D Viewer

The Volume Edit tool can also be used as an alternative to segmentation and for generating masks for functions like Marker Based Watershed Inside Mask. Only some possibilities are shown in this video. Read the User's Guide for more detail and experiment to find new uses.
