This week, Thermo Fisher Scientific LIMS and laboratory software users gathered with product experts, industry partners, and thought leaders for Digital Science Launch 2021 Virtual. While this year’s event was held virtually, the conference platform provided a flexible and interactive learning environment for attendees.
The conference kicked off with our plenary session. Richard Milne, Vice President, General Manager of Digital Science, welcomed the audience with a presentation showcasing the exciting future of digital transformation and the role Thermo Fisher plays in supporting our customers. Richard described the disruptors of the scientific ecosystem and highlighted the company’s commitment to scientific advancement through products and solutions that enable our users to push the boundaries of innovation.
Following the welcome address, Trish Meek, Senior Director, Product Strategy and Marketing for Digital Science, offered a deep dive into the future of Digital Science with a review of our product roadmap. The presentation examined common themes uncovered in customer discussions around digital transformation and detailed how the Digital Science product portfolio addresses these themes.
Saly Romero-Torres, Senior Director Digital Quality Strategy, Pharma Services, provided an in-depth case study on how Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager LIMS™ software is enabling Thermo Fisher Scientific Pharma Services’ mission and strategy. The case study examined the impact of digitalization on the organization, how and why the organization selected SampleManager LIMS, and how the implementation is supporting future digitalization efforts.
Transitioning the discussion to customer support and services, Devendra Desmukh, Senior Director, Global Services and Support for Digital Science, described how his team is leveraging technology to build a culture of service excellence. The session highlighted how tools like e-learning platforms and cloud have facilitated a more rapid and seamless customer experience for customers across the globe.
The plenary session ended with a roundtable discussion moderated by Richard Milne. The session considered the impact of industry innovation from multiple perspectives. The discussion featured Trish Meek and Devendra Deshmukh along with Christian Wip, Senior Director IT, Digital Excellence and Operations, Liz Tonks, Senior Director, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs, and Mark Alleman, Senior Director, Sales.
Exploring Thermo Fisher laboratory software solutions
With the plenary sessions completed, attendees were invited to product-focused sessions. Digital Science product managers hosted separate product stream sessions for Thermo Fisher™ Platform for Science™ software, as well as Thermo Scientific™ Watson LIMS™, and SampleManager LIMS software. The product sessions provided a deeper dive into the product roadmaps and featured presentations from service and support experts, customer case studies, and more. Technology trends that are shaping digital transformation, such as R-Shiny, OData, and cloud were also covered.
Common across all product streams was an introduction to Thermo Fisher™ Connect Platform. The Connect Platform offers true orchestration and connectivity across the scientific ecosystem. Thermo Fisher Connect provides a unified user experience and integration tools to improve data quality, reduce cycle times and support more effective and accurate decision-making to empower the scientist. The platform includes:
- Your unique scientific ecosystem on the cloud
- Professional consultation and implementation package
- Dedicated training and support personnel
- Legacy data import to bring all your data together in one location
- A configurable user interface providing a unique experience for individuals/groups/roles
The presentation also included a demo of Thermo Fisher Connect orchestrating a chromatography workflow. The demo showed a complete workflow beginning with system log in and start of workflow, instrument reservation, sample preparation, sample run, data analysis, and instrument connection.
Interactive virtual booths
Between sessions, attendees joined our social hub and interactive virtual booths to socialize and learn more about Digital Science products, services and partners. Booths were staffed by Thermo Fisher team members and our partners including Astrix Inc., CSols Inc., Orbis Labsystems, RStudio, and Zifo RnD Solutions.
