PEP-278 is a 20 amino acid synthetic peptide whose sequence corresponds to residues 22-41 of rat Syntaxin 1. The sequence of this peptide is (amino to carboxy terminus): V (22)-T-V-D-R-D-R-F-M-D-E-F-F-E-Q-V-E-E-I-R (41).
This peptide may be used for neutralization and control experiments with the polyclonal antibody that reacts with this product, Syntaxin 1, catalog # PA1-1042. Using a solution of peptide of equal volume and concentration to the corresponding antibody will yield a large molar excess of peptide (~70-fold) for competitive inhibition of antibody-protein binding reactions.
Reconstitute with 0.1 mL of distilled water.
Syntaxin 1 is a member of the syntaxin superfamily. Syntaxins are nervous system-specific proteins implicated in the docking of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic plasma membrane. Syntaxins possess a single C-terminal transmembrane domain, a SNARE [Soluble NSF (N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein)-Attachment protein REceptor] domain (known as H3), and an N-terminal regulatory domain (Habc). Syntaxins bind synaptotagmin in a calcium-dependent fashion and interact with voltage dependent calcium and potassium channels via the C-terminal H3 domain. This gene product is a key molecule in ion channel regulation and synaptic exocytosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
