Sulfuric acid is a strong dehydrating agent and is applied in many applications like domestic acidic drain cleaners, electrolytes in lead-acid batteries and various cleansing agents. It is useful for mineral processing, fertilizer manufacture, petroleum purification, wastewater processing and chemical synthesis. The catalytic decomposition of sulfuric acid on mixed Cr/Fe oxide shows a useful application in sulfur-iodine cycle for hydrogen production.
