4-Aminophenol is used as a dye for textiles, hair, furs and feathers. It is also used as a photographic developer. It finds application as a chemical intermediate in pharmaceuticals and dyes. Further, it acts as a final intermediate in the preparation of paracetamol.

Solubility
Soluble in acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, acetone, hot water, dimethylsulfoxide and alkalies. Slightly soluble in toluene, diethyl ether, ethanol, trifluoroacetic acid and cold water. Insoluble in benzene and chloroform.

Incompatible with acids, chloroformates and strong oxidizing agents.
