What is the difference between the Nunclon Delta surface and a tissue culture (TC) surface from a competitor?
Our Nunclon Delta surface for adherent cells is a standard tissue culture (TC) surface modification that makes the polystyrene surface more hydrophilic. This facilitates maximum adhesion for a broad range of cell types.
The Nunclon Delta surface is Thermo Scientific Nunclon Delta-certified, which is a Thermo Fisher proprietary certification that has a quality standard to help ensure consistency. Every lot of Thermo Scientific Nunclon Delta-certified cell cultureware is tested with Gibco media for:
- Less than 10% growth variation in L929, Hel299 and primary chick embryo cells
- Less than 15% variation colony formation of V79-4 cells
What volume of medium should I use for Nunc Cell Factory Systems?
We recommend a 200 mL volume of medium per tray (632 cm^2).

Can I view cells in a 10-tray Nunc Cell Factory System under a microscope?
Due to the height of the 10-tray and 40-tray Nunc Cell Factory Systems, cells cannot be viewed with common microscopes. Typically cells are seeded in a 1-tray or 2-tray cell factory system as a control. Cells grown in each of these products can be viewed under a microscope.
Alternatively, inverted stereo microscopes, with a powerful light source on the view side, and adjusted for the height of the cell factory system have been used to view the first few layers.

Our Nunc Cell Factory Systems are designed for large scale cell culture and production of biomaterials such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, etc. They provide large growth surface in limited space areas and have the Nunclon Delta surface coating.
Some benefits are the low risk of contamination and the easy to handle multi-layer stacks. Nunc Cell Factory Systems are available with 1-, 2-, 10-, and 40-tray versions.
