General Description
• Penicillin G sodium salt is the sodium salt of benzylpenicillin, a broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic with gram-positive and gram-negative bactericidal activity
• Penicillin G binds and inactivates penicillin-binding-proteins associated with the bacterial cell wall, thus inhibiting cell wall synthesis and resulting in cell lysis
Applications
• Penicillin G can be used as a selection agent in the isolation of microorganisms or in cell culture applications
• It can also be used to prevent infection in research animals
