General Description
• Ciprofloxacin HCl is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase/DNA topoisomerase, thus inhibiting DNA replication and subsequent bacterial cell division
• It can cause double-stranded breaks in the bacterial chromosome
• Ciprofloxacin HCl is an analog of the antibiotic nalidixic acid
• Works as an antibiotic against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and can have fungicidal activity
Applications
• Used for elimination of mycoplasma in cell culture
• Can be used to study antimicrobial activity and resistance in laboratory settings
