Diethyl phthalate is used in the production of perfumes, acetyl salicylic acid, plastics and mosquito repellents. It is used in cosmetic formulations and personal care products such as sprays, nail polishes, and perfumes. It acts as an alcohol denaturant. It is also used as a camphor substitute, plasticizer in solid rocket propellants and wetting agent. It finds application as a surface lubricant in food and pharmaceutical packaging. In addition to this, it is used as a detergent base and aerosol spray.

Solubility
Miscible with ethanol, chloroform, diethyl ether, benzene, acetone, vegetable oils, ketones, carbon tetrachloride, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons and methanol. Slightly miscible with water and aliphatic solvents.

Notes
Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, permanganates and alkalies. Store in a cool place.
