Multiskan SkyHigh Microplate Spectrophotometer is a UV/Vis microplate reader designed to be convenient and easy to use for any photometric absorbtion or turbidimetric research applications and especially DNA, RNA and protein analysis. This microplate reader is ideal for multi-user environments where a variety of endpoint, kinetic and spectral assays are performed. Multiskan SkyHigh is available in different configurations. Touchscreen models offer the flexibility to use the system as stand-alone, or together with Thermo Scientific™ SkanIt Software for PC control. A model with a cuvette reading option is also available. For convenient data handling, Multiskan SkyHigh has an option to access to Thermo Fisher Connect and Microsoft OneDrive cloud-based tools.

Compatible with 6-48, 96- and 384-well microplates or cuvettes with maximum plate height of 19.5 mm including possible lid

Can you please let me know which plates with and without lid are compatible with the Multiskan SkyHigh Microplate Spectrophotometer?

The Multiskan SkyHigh Microplate Spectrophotometer supports clear bottom 6- to 48-, 96- and 384-well microplates with and without lids, where the maximum height of the microplate or a combination of the microplate and lid is 19.5 mm. Please refer to the Plate Selection Table for Plate Readers brochure (https://assets.thermofisher.com/TFS-Assets/BID/Flyers/nunc-plate-selection-table-plate-readers-flyer.pdf) for specific plates to use.

Which is the best DNA or RNA quantification instrument?

All of the DNA instruments offered by Thermo Fisher Scientific are of excellent quality. To find the right instrument to quantify DNA or RNA in your lab, explore the detailed comparison of UV-Vis spectrophotometers and fluorometers. What is the difference between UV and fluorescence DNA quantification? Which DNA quantification technology should I choose?

UV and fluorescence technologies work differently to quantify DNA. UV quantification relies on the intrinsic absorptivity of DNA and RNA molecules, while fluorescence quantification uses dyes that specifically bind to your molecule of choice. With UV technology, quantification isn't as sensitive, but it has a broader dynamic range and also gives data about sample purity‒plus it is faster because there is no reagent prep. With fluorescence technology you get higher sensitivity and molecule-specific data, but it has lower dynamic range and reagent prep is required. The technology you need will depend on what features are important for your lab and experimentation.
