ビオシチンヒドラジドは、アルデヒドベースの固定剤で固定可能な、マイクロ注入可能な順行性の経ニューロン性トレーサーとして使用できます。さらに、この分子の脂肪族第一アミンをアルデヒドやケトンと逆に結合してシッフ塩基を形成することもできます。シッフ塩基は、ホウ素水素ナトリウム(NaBH 4)またはシアンホウ素ナトリウム(NaCNH 3)により安定したアミン誘導体に還元し、新しいビオチン化プローブを形成します。タンパク質や他の水溶性バイオポリマーのカルボン酸は、EDAC(E2247)などの水溶性カルボジイミドを使用して水溶液中のこの分子に結合できます。
